On October 5, 1997, 24 years ago today, Whitney performed the second of her two Classic Whitney concerts in Washington, D.C. The show was broadcast live on HBO and featured her hits along with tributes to Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Billie Holiday, Dionne Warwick, and Sammy Davis, Jr. Whitney and the Whitney Houston Foundation For Children donated more than $300,000 from ticket sales to the Children’s Defense Fund to support poor, minority and disabled children in the United States.
