On December 22, 1995 the film Waiting To Exhale was released in theaters. The movie starring Whitney, along with Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Lela Rochon, Gregory Hines and others was based on the book by Terry McMillan, who also wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bass. The film was directed by Forest Whitaker and centered around four women living in the area of Phoenix, Arizona, and their relationships. The original music score was composed by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and included the #1 hit “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” performed by Whitney.
