Whitney Houston’s ‘I’m Every Woman’ Was Released In January 1993

January 2, 1993 – “I’m Every Woman” was released as the second single from The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album. Written by Ashford & Simpson and originally recorded by Chaka Khan, Whitney’s version was produced by Narada Michael Walden with additional remix production by Clivilles & Cole (who also performed at Whitney’s wedding!)

The single was a huge hit, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the Dance Club Songs Chart and #5 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It even cracked top 40 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

It won Whitney an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Music Video and a GRAMMY nomination for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female.

Directed by Randee St. Nicholas, the music video included appearances by Chaka Khan, Cissy Houston, TLC, Valerie Simpson and a pregnant Whitney.
