In reviewing the single, Billboard said Whitney has “a voice of exceptional clarity and control.” The song won Favorite Soul/R&B Single at the American Music Awards and received two GRAMMY nominations — Best R&B Song and Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female. Whitney performed the song on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, which is included in the 2014 CD/DVD release Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances.
