June 8, 2012 – Whitney’s version of “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” from the film Sparkle was released as the second single from the soundtrack, four months after Whitney’s passing. It became her second posthumous single reaching the top spot on the Billboard Gospel Digital Song Sales chart. Her rendition also appears on the current gospel album I Go to the Rock: The Gospel Music of Whitney Houston.
“His Eye Is On The Sparrow” was written in 1905 by Civilla D. Martin and Charles H. Gabriel and previously recorded by Mahalia Jackson, whose version was honored with the GRAMMY Hall of Fame Award in 2010.
